Sow: Mar to May
Harvest: Aug to Sep
Sowing Indoors
Sow seeds individually in small pots of moist seed compost, 2.5 cm deep. Keep in warmth (15–18 °C) and grow on under cool, light conditions, avoiding direct sunlight.
Hardening Off / Planting Out
Gradually acclimate seedlings to outdoor conditions over 2–3 weeks before planting out after the last frost. Plant in blocks for good pollination, spacing 45 cm between plants.
Sowing Outdoors
Water soil well. Sow two seeds 2.5 cm deep at stations, 45 cm apart. Keep soil moist until seedlings establish. When seedlings reach ~8 cm, remove the weaker one at each station.
Advice
Use fleece if frost is likely. Harvest when cob silks turn brown.
