Unwins Pumpkin Atlantic Giant is a truly impressive pumpkin variety to grow in your garden or allotment. It is an exceptionally large variety, ideal for competitions.
The pumpkins grow so large they can be great for growing with children so they can marvel at how large they grow. There have been Atlantic Giant pumpkins grown up to 800kg in weight!

Harvest: Sep to Oct
Sowing Indoors
Sow seeds individually on edge in small pots of firm, moist seed compost 2 cm deep. Cover pots with cling film and place in warmth at 15–18 °C. As seedlings develop, remove cling film and grow on under cool, light conditions, but not in direct sunlight. Keep moist.
Planting Out
Gradually acclimatise young plants to outdoor conditions for 2–3 weeks before planting out in cropping positions, allowing 120 cm between plants, after risk of frost has passed. Water and feed regularly.

Water sowing positions, then sow two or three seeds close together in a group 2 cm deep, allowing 120 cm between each group. After germination, leave only the strongest seedling in each group. Keep well watered in dry spells.
Aftercare
Pumpkins are thirsty and hungry plants. Water freely and frequently, especially during dry spells. Once fruits start to swell, feed plants regularly with a liquid fertiliser. Grow and ripen best in full sun.

The biggest pumpkins are grown from plants started indoors early and protected from cold before planting out into soil rich in organic matter. Only keep 1 or 2 developing pumpkins per plant to focus energy into these fruits.
