Sowing Outdoors
Rake soil to provide a firm, even surface. Sow seeds thinly in pre-watered soil and lightly cover with a very small amount of soil. Sowing in irregular drifts rather than in rows can give a more pleasing and natural effect. Keep soil moist until seedlings are established.
Thinning
When large enough to handle, thin out seedlings to prevent overcrowding. Poppies rarely transplant successfully.
Advice
Late summer and autumn sowings from August to October will flower in the following year, and generally flower earlier than plants sown in spring.
