Pea (Mangetout) Delikata

Unwins Mangetout Snow Pea Delikata Seeds are a RHS Award of Garden Merit variety producing versatile mangetout as well as shelled peas.

You can pick deliciously sweet mangetout pods or wait until the pods are bulging and then shell out the equally sweet peas.

Sow: March to June
Harvest: June to September

Sow Outdoors
Make a flat-bottomed drill 5 cm deep and 15 cm wide. Sow seeds approximately 7.5 cm apart in a zigzag pattern. Backfill with soil and firm gently. Allow about 60 cm between rows.

Support
As the peas start to grow, support them with netting or pea sticks.

Advice
Protect emerging shoots from birds using twigs or netting. Keep soil consistently moist at the base without wetting leaves. Sow in succession for continuous crops. For an earlier start, sow indoors in late winter and plant out once seedlings are about 20 cm tall and acclimatised to outdoor conditions. Warm the soil under cloches or polythene for early sowings if necessary. Pick pods regularly.
