Unwins Maincrop Pea Hurst Greenshaft Seeds produce exceptionally sweet large pods, typically carrying 10 peas-per-pod. This quick to grow variety should be sown outdoors between March and May and will be ready to harvest come June and July.
These nutrient-rich peas are delightful bursts of flavour served in soups, risottos and salads. Or simply tossed in butter and served as a side to any dish.

Sow: March to June

Sow Outdoors
Make a flat-bottomed drill 5 cm deep and 15 cm wide, and water well. Sow seeds approximately 7.5 cm apart in a zigzag pattern. Backfill with soil and firm gently. Allow about 60 cm between rows.
Support
As plants grow, support with netting or pea sticks.
Aftercare
Protect emerging shoots from birds using small twigs. Keep the soil around the base of the plants well watered, avoiding wetting the leaves. Sow regularly for continuous crops.
Advice
For an earlier start, sow seeds indoors in late winter and plant out when seedlings are about 20 cm tall and acclimatised to outdoor conditions. For early outdoor sowings, warm the soil first under a cloche or polythene if needed. Pick pods regularly.
