Sow: Feb to Apr
Flowering: Jun to Sep
Sowing
Almost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost. Sow seeds thinly over the surface and lightly cover with a little more compost. Place in the warmth, 15–20 °C, and keep moist.
Growing On
Keep seedlings in a light position, but shade from direct sunlight. When large enough to handle, transplant 5 cm apart into trays of potting compost or individually into 8 cm pots of compost.
Hardening Off / Planting Out
Indoor sowing only. Keep seedlings shaded from bright sunlight, then gradually accustom to outdoor conditions for 2–3 weeks before planting out, avoiding frosts. Plant out 30 cm apart.
Aftercare
Remove dead flower heads to encourage further flowers.
Advice
Can be sown in late summer or early autumn and protected in a cold frame. Overwinter for early flowering next year.
