Product Details

Nature's Haven Teasel Winter Bouquet Seeds produce a Biennial with striking architectural features.

It attracts butterflies, bees and birds, particularly finches. After flowering, finches will take the seed from the heads. Once they have done this why not take the flowerheads indoors to create impressive dried arrangements.

Winter Bouquet also tolerates poor, dry soils extremely well.

  • Loved by pollinators
  • Prefers full sun
Sow: Apr to Aug
Flowering: Jul to Aug

Sowing Indoors
Almost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost. Sow seeds thinly over the surface and lightly cover with a little more compost. Place in the warmth, 10–15 °C, and keep moist.

Growing On
Keep seedlings in a light position, but shade from direct sunlight. When large enough to handle, transplant 5 cm apart into trays of potting compost.

Hardening Off / Planting Out
Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2–3 weeks before planting out during summer and autumn. Young plants will then become established before the onset of winter. Allow 30 cm between plants.

Sowing Outdoors
Seed can also be sown outdoors in short, pre-watered shallow rows 1 cm deep. Lightly cover with a little soil and keep moist until seedlings emerge. Thin them to 2 cm apart when large enough to handle, before transplanting to their permanent positions in autumn.

Growing Tip
Prefers heavy clay soils which do not dry out in summer. Ideal for ground that won't be cultivated for a couple of years.
