Product Details
Brilliant summer colour. Perfect for containers. Easy-to-grow, long-flowering mix suitable for sunny borders as well as patio pots, with edible flowers. RHS Pollinator.
Sow: March to June
Flowering: June to September
Sowing
Level-fill a tray with seed compost, firming gently with the base of another tray. Water well with a fine rose. Scatter seeds thinly and cover with 1 cm of compost. Place in a propagator at 15–20 °C, or cover the tray with cling film and leave in a warm room.
Growing On
When shoots appear, remove the cling film. Keep seedlings in a light position, shading from direct sunlight. When large enough to handle, transplant 5 cm apart into trays of potting compost or singly into small pots. Grow on at a minimum temperature of 10 °C.
Hardening Off / Planting Out
Gradually accustom plants to outdoor conditions for 2–3 weeks before planting out 30 cm apart when the risk of frost has passed. Water well until established.
Sowing Outdoors
Sow seeds in pre-watered soil at a depth of 2 cm in their final flowering positions. Keep the soil moist until seedlings emerge, and water well during dry spells. Thin seedlings to around 30 cm apart.
Advice
Nasturtiums do best in poor soils without feeding. Can be used in companion planting schemes for chemical-free growing. Freshly-picked flowers make a colourful and tasty addition to salads.
