Sow: February to April
Flowering: June to September
Sowing
Almost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost. Sow seeds evenly spaced over the surface and lightly cover with a little more compost. Place in gentle warmth at 15–25 °C and keep moist at all times. Soaking the seeds overnight before sowing will help improve germination.
Growing On
Keep seedlings in a light position, shading from direct sunlight. When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings singly into 8 cm pots of multi-purpose compost.
Hardening Off / Planting Out
Gradually accustom plants to outdoor conditions for 2–3 weeks before planting out when the danger of frost has passed. Allow 30 cm between plants in open soil; container plantings can be closer. Young shoots may turn yellow in cooler conditions but will recover quickly.
Advice
An annual climber with a twining habit, heart-shaped leaves, and trumpet-shaped blooms. Ideal for growing through shrubs and trees, or over fences and trellis, adding striking sky-blue colour to the garden.
Warning
Harmful if eaten by humans or pets.
