It's excellent frost hardiness as well as being an award-winning variety with attractive blue-green leaves. Lancaster shows good bolt resistance and provides a welcome winter crop.

Sowing Indoors
Sow thinly into pre-watered seed trays about 1 cm deep. Place in a warm environment (10–15 °C) and keep moist at all times.
Planting Out
When seedlings reach 20 cm tall, plant into holes 15 cm deep, then fill with water. Space plants 20 cm apart in rows 30 cm apart.

Sow thinly into pre-watered soil about 1 cm deep in rows 30 cm apart in a seedbed. Keep soil moist and thin seedlings to 20 cm apart.
Aftercare
To ensure long white stems, draw up soil around plants as they develop. Keep well watered and feed regularly.
