Lavender Blue Spear

The Lavender Blue Spear is a showy variety with large, intense flower spikes. Loved by bees. A modern ‘English’ Lavender with huge vibrant flower spikes and a neat, compact growing habit.

Sow: February to August
Flowering: June to September

Sowing
Almost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost. Sow seeds thinly over the surface and lightly cover them with a little more compost. Alternatively, sow seeds in a module tray. Place in the warmth, 15–20 °C, and keep moist.

Growing On
Keep seedlings in a light position but shade from direct sunlight. When large enough to handle, transplant 5 cm apart into trays of potting compost. Alternatively, transplant individually into 8 cm pots.

Hardening Off / Planting Out
Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2–3 weeks before planting out from early summer onwards. Allow 35 cm between plants.

Aftercare
Trim back after flowering to maintain a compact habit.

Advice
Early sowings will flower for the first time in the same year as sowing. Lavender flowers and foliage can be used in salads or flowers can be candied and used to flavour jams.
