The traditional garden favourite 'Red Hot Poker' is a reliable perennial for sunny borders where it will tolerate drier conditions and provide unusual cut flowers. Stunning mix of bright flower spikes. Ideal for sunny borders.
Sowing Indoors
Sow on the surface of pre-watered seed compost, in pots or trays, lightly pressing into the surface. Place in a propagator or bag at around 20 °C in shade and allow 2–4 weeks for germination. Remove lid or bag and keep in cooler, brighter conditions after germination.
Growing On
Transplant into 8 cm pots when seedlings are large enough to handle. Grow on at 12–15 °C. Autumn sowings can be overwintered in a greenhouse prior to planting out after the danger of frost has passed.
Planting Out
Plant out in well-drained soil in full sun, 60 cm apart.
Aftercare
Cut down old stems after flowering.
