- Harvest all year round
- Prefers partial shade and slightly moist soil
Sow: March to August
Harvest: May to October
Sowing
Sow thinly in module trays of firm, pre-watered compost, and cover with a little more compost. Place in warmth (15–20°C), do not exclude light, and keep moist at all times.
Growing On / Planting Out
Gradually acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions before planting out 15 cm apart, once the danger of frost has passed. Avoid root disturbance. A lightly shaded spot is ideal, as flowering occurs more slowly than in full sun.
Sowing Outdoors
Sow 1 cm deep in light shade and keep well-watered, especially in warm, dry weather. When large enough to handle, thin to 15 cm apart. Protect young plants from slugs and snails.
Advice
Chervil grows quickly and can be harvested until it begins flowering. Sow in successive batches to extend the picking period. May also be grown in containers at least 30 cm in diameter. Self-seeds readily, so remove spent plants before they set seed if not desired.
