- Self-twining climber
- Can be trained over an obelisk or pergola
Sow: February to April
Flowering: June to September
Sowing
Almost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost and sow seeds thinly over the surface, but do not cover them with compost. Place the tray in a warm position at 10–15 °C and keep the compost moist. As seedlings emerge, cover them lightly with a trace of compost to provide anchorage.
Growing On
Keep seedlings in a light position, but shade them from direct sunlight. When large enough to handle, transplant individually into 8 cm pots filled with potting compost.
Hardening Off / Planting Out
Gradually accustom plants to outdoor conditions for 2–3 weeks before planting out when the danger of frost has passed. Allow 60–90 cm between plants.
Advice
Darkness and temperatures above 18 °C will inhibit germination. The vines will support themselves with their tendrils as they climb.
