Sowing
Rake soil to provide a firm, even surface. Sow seeds thinly in pre-watered soil in full sun, lightly covering them with a little more soil. Sowings made in semi-circular lines create a natural ‘drift’ effect. Keep moist until seedlings appear and water as required in dry spells.
Thinning
When large enough to handle, thin seedlings to allow their development and prevent overcrowding.
Aftercare / Advice
Keep well-watered, especially during warm, dry spells. Late summer and autumn sowings may benefit from cloche or fleece protection during hard frosts—these plants will usually flower earlier the following summer than spring sowings.
