Product Details

Unwins Cerinthe Blue Kiwi Seeds produce hardy annual flowers that are very attractive to pollinators. The vibrant, purple flowers contrast beautifully with the blue-green foliage.

Cerinthe are excellent for cutting and can be sown both indoors and outdoors ready to flower in the Autumn months.

  • Long stems
  • Looks great in borders and containers
Sow: February to May / August to October
Flowering: May to August

Sowing
Sow in a tray of moist seed compost in gentle warmth at 10–15 °C. Lightly cover the seeds with a little more compost.

Transplanting
Transplant individually into 8 cm pots of compost when seedlings are large enough to handle.

Hardening Off / Planting Out
Gradually acclimatize plants to cooler conditions before planting out from April onwards. Plants from August–October sowings should be planted in late autumn. Allow 30 cm between plants.

Sowing Outdoors
Rake soil to a firm, even surface. Sow seeds thinly in pre-watered soil, lightly covering with a little more soil. Sowings made in semi-circular lines create a natural “drift” effect. Keep moist until seedlings appear and water during dry spells.

Aftercare / Advice
Thin seedlings as needed to prevent overcrowding and disease. Self-sown seedlings may appear the following year and can be transplanted to other areas of the garden.
