Unwins Celeriac Brilliant Seeds produce great celeriacs with a unique, intense flavour. These smooth-skinned vegetables are an improvement on their older varieties.
Celeriacs have a white flesh that keeps its colour and adds superb flavour to soups and stews, making them a must-have vegetable for winter meals.

Sow: Mar to Apr
Harvest: Oct to Feb
Sowing Indoors
Sow thinly in small pots of pre-watered seed compost. Place in a propagator at 15–20 °C, or cover with cling film and keep in a warm place. Once seedlings appear, grow on in a cool (frost-free) bright spot.
Growing On
When seedlings are large enough to handle, pot individually into 8 cm pots and maintain at a minimum temperature of 15 °C. Keep soil moist at all times.
Hardening Off & Planting Out
Gradually harden off before planting out in May or June. Space plants 30 cm apart, with 35 cm between rows.
Aftercare
Keep the ground weed-free and consistently damp; mulching helps retain moisture. Remove outer leaves as they fall and trim side shoots.
Advice
Harvest as needed from mid-autumn until late winter. Flavour improves over time. Lift carefully with a fork; cover roots with straw to prevent freezing and ease lifting.
