Ensuring your dog's teeth and gums are healthy is vital to ensuring a happy dog. Good dental hygiene helps to prevent illness and any potential disease in the future and is a practice that should be regularly exercised but often goes amiss with pet owners.

How to clean dog teeth without brushing?
One of the easiest ways to clean your dog’s teeth without brushing them is through dental treats. Designed to remove plaque, tartar build up and keep your dog’s breath fresh, dental treats are made with natural ingredients and essential enzymes to help promote optimum dental hygiene. Available in a variety of flavours to suit your dog’s personal taste, dental treats are a fuss-free way to ensure your dog's dental hygiene is kept is tip-top condition while also acting as a rewarding tasty treat.

How to brush dog teeth?
The first step to brushing your dog's teeth is to get them used to the taste of dog toothpaste and the feeling of the dog toothbrush. A great way to do this is to add the toothpaste to their food or your finger and let them lick it off - using a meat-flavoured toothpaste will help make this more appealing.

The second step is to get them used to their teeth being touched, ideally this should be done from them being a puppy, but if this is not possible, then slowly introducing ways to touch their teeth over-time will suffice.

Once your dog is used to these new sensations, gradually introduce a toothbrush and toothpaste. Simply lift up their upper and lower lips one at a time to gain access to their teeth and brush gently. We suggest trying to form a dental care routine to help reduce any of your dog's potential anxiety around this activity.

If you're looking for further advice on how best to maintain a good oral hygiene with your pooch, our 'dog dental care' blog provides extensive advice and recommendation for dog owners.

How often should you brush your dogs teeth?
We recommend brushing your dog's teeth every 1-2 days ideally, however we understand that this may be difficult if your dog is adverse to getting their teeth brushed. Therefore, we suggest attempting to brush their teeth twice per week in order to keep up with good dental hygiene. If your dog is persistently not allowing you to carry out this teeth brushing action, we recommend investing in good quality dog dental treats as a last resort and a fuss-free way to keep up with your dog's dental routine.
